SFN can now quickly deploy and maintain networks in the UK

15^th January 2013, Dublin, Ireland - Sea Fibre Networks (SFN), owner and operator of Europe’s most advanced sub-sea telecoms network, CeltixConnect, today announced that the UK Communications regulator, Ofcom has granted SFN Code powers enabling it to roll out fibre-based networks in the UK. This important milestone allows SFN to connect its sub-sea network to multiple UK terrestrial providers, at a much faster rate, demonstrating its commitment to carrier neutrality.

In 2012, SFN completed construction of the Staffordshire Gateway, an unrivalled interconnection point made possible by constructing a high fibre count terrestrial network from Balterley to Halmer End. Code powers facilitate SFN when delivering critical networks, like the Staffordshire Gateway, ensuring customers’ bespoke requirements are met. SFN can now maintain its network with the quickest response time adding another dimension to its proactive Operations and Maintenance Programme.

ACMA operates one of the largest dedicated marine fleets in the world and is responsible for the maintenance and repair for over 60 of the largest sub-sea telecoms, power, oil and gas organisations in the world.

Following on from a long honoured tradition amongst the ACMA members, SFN is delighted to have been selected from a group of prestigious sub-sea providers to spearhead the development and new direction of this vital resource. The ACMA website is an essential communications tool for members such as Cable & Wireless, Hibernia Atlantic, Verizon and SFN who depend on real time access to information regarding vessel locations and maintenance agreements. This strategic investment demonstrates SFN’s commitment to carrier-neutrality further minimising dependency on single operators and ensuring the customer is always at the forefront of choosing the best suited solution design for their requirements. By constructing the Staffordshire Gateway, SFN bypass a longer (158km), more northerly route to London increasing diversity and lowering costs for customers. This newly constructed Dublin to London route satisfies demands for capacity and low latency driven by digital services and online gaming industries typically requiring shortest route connections and extreme speeds.
